MASTER QUOC L. TRAN
Journey to "Malaysia" and the World Martial Arts Black Belt Hall of Fame 2007

On August 13, 2007, Master Quoc L. Tran departed from the Newark Liberty International Airport, New Jersey to Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. Master Tran arrived at the beautiful city of Kuching, Malaysia on August 15th. Upon arrival, Prof. Dr. Song Swee Hee, his son Alan Song Chuan Hui and his two students, Lai Lee Sze and Chai Chan Sin picked up Master Tran at the airport and transferred him to the hotel.

Master Tran arrives to Kuching three days earlier before the 4th World Martial Arts Black Belt Hall of Fame event. During those three days, Master Tran has the opportunity to meet with some of the greatest Martial Artist, Master and Grandmaster came from different countries such as Grandmaster Dr. Daniel Verkerke from Canada, Sifu Christopher Anthony Eagle from New Zealand, Master Dr. Martin Sewer from Switzerland, Grandmaster Chan Keng Soon and Mr. Henry Ak. Jamban from Malaysia, Grandmaster Tseng Wen Tieh from Taiwan, Grandmaster Hong Chul Kim and Grandmaster Hong Seung Kil from Korea, Sifu Yeo Wee Boon and Master Lim Eng Yew from Singapore, Master Evgeny Chertovskikh and Master Momotov Yury from Russia and Mr. Chandan Kr. Nath and Mr. Manu Borgayary. All of these Martial Artists, Master and Grandmaster are inducted into the World Martial Arts Black Belt Hall of Fame 2007.


THE 4TH WORLD MARTIAL ARTS BLACK BELT HALL OF FAME

The 4th World Martial Arts Black Belt Hall of Fame was held at Penview Inn, Kuching on August 18, 2007. The theme of the World Martial Arts Black Belt Hall Of Fame is "Give due recognition and honors to outstanding Martial Arts Organizations and Practitioners". The official opening ceremony began at 10:00 am, with speeches from Government Officials by the Organizing Chairperson, Cr. Irene Yong and the Honorable Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri. Dr. George Chan Hong Nam, Deputy Chief Minister, Minister for Modernization of Agriculture and Minister of Industrial Development, Sarawak and Patron of Nanyang Wushu Federation of Sarawak. After the speeches, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr. George Chan cuts the "Rose-Ball" to mark the opening of the 4th World Martial Arts Black Belt Hall of Fame. Master Quoc L. Tran was appointed as USA Ambassador for the International Martial Arts Research Institute (Member of the Advisory Council). The certificate of appointment was presented to Master Tran by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri. Dr. George Chan Hong Nam.


After the appointment presentation, then the cultural performances began. There were Nanyang Lion and Dragon Dance, Nanyang Drums and Wushu demonstration; performed by students of Nanyang Wushu Federation of Sarawak.


Right after the ceremony ends, the guests of honor had a special luncheon together with the Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri. Dr. George Chan Hong Nam; Organizing Chairperson, Cr. Irene Yong; president of the International Martial Arts Research Institute, Prof. Dr. Song Swee Hee and students of Nanyang Wushu Federation of Sarawak.


THE SEMINARS

The seminars began at 2:00pm and ends at 5:30pm. Master Quoc Tran was the second person to conducted the seminar. He demonstrated speed in self defense in his style of Vietnamese Combat Martial Arts / Wushu. Master Martin Sewer from Switzerland, successor of Grandmaster Chiu Chi Ling (head of Hung Gar Kung Fu) assisted Master Tran in his seminar and later Master Tran assisted Master Martin Sewer in his seminar. Master Tran also assisted Sifu Christopher A. Eagle from New Zealand in his seminar. Master Tran's seminar was greatly appreciated by students, spectators, masters and grandmasters.


AWARDS BANQUET

The 4th World Martial Arts Black Belt Hall of Fame awards banquet started at 7:00pm. The invited guests came in, filled up the Hall, the Lion Dance began and then the arrival of the Honorable Mr. Larry Sng Wei Shien, Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister's Officie & Assistant Minister of Industrial Development, Sarawak and Honorary Advisor of Nanyang Wushu Federation of Sarawak. Master Quoc Tran sat at the head table with the Honourable Mr. Larry Sng Wei Shien, Cr. Irene Yong, Organizing Chairperson, Prof. Dr. Song Swee Hee, Grandmaster Dr. Daniel Verkerke, Master Martin Sewer, Grandmaster Hong Seung Kil, Grandmaster Kim Hong Chul and Grandmaster Tseng Wen Tieh. The national and state anthem play followed by a speech by the Organizing Chairperson, Cr. Irene Yong and the Honorable Mr. Larry Sng Wei Shien and then the cultural dance. The World Martial Arts Black Belt Hall of Fame 2007 awards presentation began. Master Quoc L. Tran was awarded "Master Instructor of the Year". The award presented to him by the Honourable Mr. Larry Sng Wei Shien. After the presentation, some Masters and Grandmasters performed demonstrations for the crowds and the ceremony ends with karaoke, photos taken, autographs, etc.


CITY TOUR

On August 19, 2007, the day after the event, Master Quoc Tran with the honored guests was taken a City Tour in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. There are many beautiful attractions in Kuching that Master Tran had an opportunity to visit such as the Kuching Waterfront, Sarawak Museum, Chinese History Museum, Cat Museum, Buddist Temple, Ching San Yen Temple, Admiral Zheng He (Cheng Ho) Statue, Civic Center, Kuching market and many shopping mall.


THE HEADQUARTERS

Master Quoc Tran visited the headquarters of the International Martial Arts Research Institute and Nanyang Wushu Federation of Sarawak, Martial Arts Federation of Malaysia and People's Cultural Arts Institute with the honored guests.


KUCHING FESTIVAL 2007

Master Quoc Tran also had the opportunity to attend the Kuching Festival 2007. This festival is celebrated every year in August. What special about this year is that Malaysia celebrated it 50 years of nationhood. The festival includes food fair, night performance, garden show and much more.
